Life...

So I am on Fall Break right now and spent the weekend at Mississippi State for the football game. It was fun seeing almost all of my friends there. I kind of wish I had stayed a little longer, but I still have schoolwork to do.

I was at my grandfather's house last night and must say that I wanted to cry. Here is a man who used to do so well running a family business that was started by his father. He has seen our city go through so much growth, and decline, and has done numerous great things for the Diocese of Jackson. Thanks to his contributions, two wonderful, beautiful churches were built and the Dominican Sisters came to open what is now probably the best medical complex in the state.

But now he is tired of life and just sitting at home doing nothing but complain. I can tell that he is tired of living since he is basically at home alone after burying two wives. True, his youngest son and two grandaughters live with him now, but they are hardly ever home. If only we could get him out to St Catherine's Village, a retirement home with plenty of people for him to tell stories to. They would treat him like a king there!! After all, he helped build that place too...

So please pray for him and my family. Pope John Paul II gave us a beautiful model of living life to the last breath and making the most of it. If only we could grasp the love that he had for life...
